Summer Plans

"School's out for summer!" ~ Alice Cooper

I went to Fifi's elementary graduation yesterday and choked up more than once.  You never know how these things will hit you.  From the second you become a mommy, you experience a lovely stew of emotions.  It never subsides.  Watching her tiny self walk up to get her certificate, I was filled with pride and sadness, joy and impending loss.  I am happy and proud with each milestone they meet.  However, I also know they are with us for such a short time and this leaves me feeling a bit melancholy.

When the girls were babies, we would often be stopped often by elderly folks.  At one point in time, I had two in a stroller and one baby in a carrier!  They would always say the same thing.  "Make sure you enjoy every moment because it goes by too quickly."  I would smile politely while smugly thinking they don't know what they are talking about.  Sadly, they were all right.  My first years with them did move slowly.  When you are spending your days elbow deep in poo and Blue's Clues, life does proceed at a snail's pace.  Now that the girls are in school, each passing school year seems to just blow by.

So, yesterday's events with my beautiful girl has me thinking of the summer gift of time we have been given.  I want to make the most of our time together as a family.  Soon enough, they will want only to be with friends. I look back on my own childhood and remember the best times I had were just laughing and talking with my own family.  These are the times that shaped what kind of person I was to be.  It is my mission to fill this summer with simple fun, lots of giggles and  tons of memories.  I hope you have a fab summer yourself!

Have the best day ever!
