Keeping Up With Technology + Branding

Let me begin by saying, I have a love/hate relationship with technology. I will agree it has it's place.  Being able to reach many people through forms of social media, gaining information at a moment's notice or taking photos with my phone of various design items have all made my life easier.  However, I also feel technology has taken over the world.  Balance is what I am asking for in this world of constant change. Somehow if an electronic is newer, it is viewed as better thus making everyone feel constantly discontent.  Frankly, I don't get it.  My soul is from a different era.  I will always welcome and appreciate the written word over an e-mail or choose an actual book over a Kindle.  I have found many like-minded people through blogging who help me feed my addiction to snail mail with their many charming products.
My beloved eight year old pink Dell has been dying a S-L-O-W, painful death for the last year.  I love that little old guy but lately he hasn't been able to hang with the younger, faster laptops.  So, I have reluctantly purchased a new computer.  Andrew and I couldn't be more different in this realm.  He is the technically minded fella through and through and I am the creative, emotional girl.  He seems to roll with these punches.  I, however, do not care for constant changes in my technology.  I feel that, in most cases, my old whatever was always better quality than the new.  I knew when he looked at me kindly and said, "People don't keep computers for eight years.  Of course, it's running slow."  it was time to part with it.  I have been weaning myself from it and trying to use this new, sleek, fast as lighting laptop.  I tell myself this is a good thing because it won't take me two hours to get a blog post out and I will be able to check my e-mail without standing on one leg, while rubbing my head and patting my tummy. I also think it will help to improve my business...so there's that.

I have been pondering a lot lately about making some business changes. Most people begin the year  in January but my year starts with the school year because I can only work while the girls are away.  This leaves me all summer (in between fun in the sun) to reassess, organize and gear up for  September.  By September, I am ready to go!  First, I really want to change my company name.  It is currently LeBeau 14 {design house}.  I thought it was a clever name at the time of inception because  LeBeau Drive was the street where I grew up.  Honestly, it wasn't full of fond memories and my parents were divorced there so that puts a bit of bad juju on it right from the beginning.  Also, people struggle with the pronunciation...um, constantly.  I have been reading this book and feel I need to make some revisions.  So, I am getting all my ducks in a row and gearing up for some exciting changes. Who knows what is around the corner?! Now, these are the kind of changes I like!

Have the best day ever!

  1. Oh so exciting for you...can't wait to hear the new company name! I feel the same way about technology a lot of the times but it's here to stay so we have to roll with it! I do adore wax seals and need to use mine more ;)

    1. I do too! Wax seals seem to make a note more special. I have also been thinking of getting a stamp machine with my new biz name. Now, to decide on a name.....

  2. Oh, I so wish I had been born in a different generation!! I too have a love/hate relationship with technology.., Yes, technology is a wonderful thing, but it has also caused many negative changes in our social interactions, in my personal opinion. I am a huge fan of written notes, and I send them whenever I can! BTW, I think I got rid of that same pink Dell last year... RIP.

    The Glam Pad

    1. It seems you and I are vintage kindred spirits! I agree with everything you said, especially the negative changes in our social interactions. It is destroying the beauty of connecting with people.

I am forcing myself to use this new computer. The loss I feel for my pink Dell gets easier each day. ;-)

Thank you for stopping by. I love hearing your thoughts. :)
