Style Under the Stairs

"You know you have reached perfection of design not when you have nothing more to add, but when you have nothing more to take away." ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery

I have been captivated by this photo of Stephen Schubel's Paris apartment for years now.  This all white space accented with a leopard runner and an abundance of eclectic art is right up my alley!  He has managed to consolidate a ton of style into this tiny spot.  I think placing a desk beneath the stairs is a clever use of space.  If you happen to be living in a small home,  every smidge of square footage is valuable.

This has me thinking of my tiny 200 square foot abode in Boston many years ago.  I wish I would have been this creative back then in creating little pockets of living space.  Instead I plopped a Queen bed in the middle of the room and called it a day.  I remember my friend coming over to watch a movie and we had to sit on the edge of my bed, drinking our wine and pretending it wasn't super a.w.k.w.a.r.d.

This adorable nook in Reese Witherspoon's home is more in tune with the house we have now, except we have a closet beneath the stairs in our entry.  I would love to open it up and do something like this.  All I need is a sledge hammer and an afternoon, right?!  I will keep you posted. ;-)

Have the best day ever!
