Project Peacock

"A home should evoke strong family traditions and rouse the heart and soul."
~ Peter Anderes

I told you I was thinking about the possibility of peacock as a nice color change in the game room. I started painting yesterday and will finish up tomorrow.  I wanted to give you a little update and will show you the room once it is completed.

Although you can't tell from the photo, the existing color is little girl lavender.  Yep!  I have no idea what I was thinking.  I did a blog post about the color last year and thought this would be a fun, out-of-the-box choice.  About 3/4 of the way through, I decided I hated it and gave myself a swift kick to the ass for the money/energy/time that I wasted.  I finished the room but never stepped into it again...until yesterday.

I am happy to say I am thrilled with the new color!  I chose Behr Ultra in Caribe mainly because I fell in love with the richness and (quite honestly) was too lazy to trek all the way to Benjamin Moore. It covers really well and gives the room the saturated moodiness I was looking to achieve. Most importantly, it gives new life to our existing pieces which is awesome because we aren't looking to spend much dough in this space.

This room (as all in my neighborhood) has a secret door leading to a hidden room. When we first moved in, we found this to be clever and unique.  The novelty has worn off and it has become quite the design challenge.  Since it is actually a door, anything that is put in the bookshelves tumbles when the door moves.  I will again stand by my opinion that the builders were drinking a cocktail or four when they drew up the plans for these homes. [cough, cough, poor follow through] I have decided I am going to paint this magic door the same hue as the wall but in a high gloss finish.  Plan A: I guess I could buy some old books from the thrift shop [cue Macklemore] and Velcro them to the back. Plan B:  I could have a cocktail or four and convince myself that this is quality craftsmanship. ;)

The only thing this room will need after tomorrow is lighting as there is a most hideous of all ceiling fans in there now. I won't even post a photo because I don't want such ugliness mucking up my blog.  Also it provides little to no light, so what's the point?!  I have been looking at chandeliers that actually take their job seriously and light up a room.

This is what I would like in there because it makes my heart go pitter patter.....

Once I wake up from my dreaming, this is what will actually go in there.  It is nice, yes.  But it's no Jean de Merry Lumiere.

Have the best day ever!
