Break It Down

Remember, color is not just color, but mood, temperature and structure.
Van Day Truex

This onset of chilly temps has left me wanting to lounge in bed and surf  Pinterest all day with a cup of hot cocoa.  I came across this super cozy bedroom designed by Tamara Magel and loved the simple yet dramatic vibe. It inspired me to actually think about tackling our long neglected guest room. Tamara's jaw dropping designs are beautiful and varied. See more of her chic portfolio, here.

Today, I am going to break down the elements that make this minimalist bedroom special.

A fur throw is an easy way to add texture and luxury.  It gives crisp, simple bedding a sense of opulence.

Dark walls create drama and flair.  Paint the entire room for a moody, comforting cocoon or an accent wall for focus.  It takes nerve to slap on some a dark hue, but I promise you won't be sorry.

Modern lighting is my current obsession.  These glamorous sconces add mid century flavor.  As far as I am concerned, every room should have something from this time period.  I am also loving these gold dipped bulbs.  Can you even?!

I love the quirky aspect of word art - especially when it is large scale and impactful.  There are so many places that offer an array of  cool, affordable pieces which makes it less painful when you want to change it out on a whim. ;)

Graphic pillows add interest and movement in an otherwise quiet space.  They are a fresh modern addition to crisp white bedding.

Have an inspired day!

  1. I've had the pleasure of spending these chilly days lounging around the house with sick a sick kiddo. After this afternoon looks like I'll be spending the rest of the week chillin' in my p.j.'s with another one down...next it will be Junie B. O.k. so I'm OBSESSING over the picture above the bed...I need this 5 6 7 8.

  2. OH, NO! That's terrible! I hope you don't get it as well. We have all had it except Ava. Sleepytime tea has helped at bedtime. I will text you where to get that print. ;)
